I just received three proofs from my photographer for a 10,000 square foot home (not including the fabulous patios upstairs and down) which I have been working on for over three years! Wow! What a great feeling to see the finished project photographed and almost ready for submittal to a few premier design magazines my clients (and myself) love to read! Hours of design, drawings, shopping and selections, meetings, and consultations have come together to create the home of my client’s dreams, which gives me a thrill that is hard to describe.
When a client comes to me, quite often they have design ideas swimming around in their head, but often they don’t know how to express them. So, I usually start off giving them a little homework…yes, homework! First, I ask them to browse through interior design magazines and tear out or use stickies on photographs that they like either all or a portion of. The more, the better. It’s the best way that I, as their designer, can understand what they want their home to look and feel like. So, tear, circle, highlight, and write comments are the instructions I give.
And, finally, after months, if not years, of work, I have completed the job with happy clients, which makes my day…or year, for that matter. To see all the effort I’ve put forth in the final photographs almost completed is the satisfaction which every designer craves.
